Important Notice: Ragnarok Online LATAM and Compliance with Brazil’s ECA Law

Dear players, parents, and community members,

The Brazilian ECA Digital law (Lei nº 15.211/2025) is going into effect in March 2026. 

It is part of our mission to protect children and adolescents from inappropriate influences and content and we are dedicated to ensuring that our digital environments are safe and appropriate for all our players, regardless of country of residence. As such, we will be making some changes to our services this month.

Ragnarok Online LATAM is currently classified as 12+ by ClassInd, Brazil’s content rating authority. However, after careful internal review, we as a company have determined that Ragnarok Online LATAM should be for players that are 18 and older.

Although Ragnarok Online LATAM’s content is thematically acceptable for players 16 and older, there are several aspects of the game make it unsuitable in light of the ECA Digital Law.

•    RO LATAM sells items that use gacha or Lootbox mechanics. Additionally, while not for sale, there are many in-game systems that use similar mechanics, giving random rewards. Some of these use visuals reminiscent of slot machines or other imagery associated with gambling. Therefore, it is our assessment that even without paid gacha items, Ragnarok Online LATAM would still be inappropriate for young children.

•    Ragnarök Online LATAM has many narrative and story elements that contain adult-oriented themes, including references and items associated with alcohol, tobacco, legal drugs, altered states, sex and suicide. We feel these themes are not aligned with child protection standards and are inappropriate for minors. 

•    RO LATAM features player chat. While there are chat filters and moderation, chat is freely allowed between players in a variety of formats from private messages to in-game mail and open world chat. With this type of chat freedom, we understand it is a potential risk and makes the environment improper for children and adolescents. 

Additionally, while not covered by the ECA Digital Law, we also recognize that the players of Ragnarok Online LATAM are primarily over 22 years old. In our experience, except in the case of family members, adult players do not normally enjoy playing in the same environments as minors and vice versa. 

Therefore, to align with the ECA law and our commitment to safety:

ACCOUNT & PURCHASE ACCESS

• Effective March 25th, 2026 
• •    Accounts registered to players under 18 will no longer be able to access the game. When a player has reached 18 years of age, they will be able to return to the game. 
  •    Purchase of JoyCoins will be prohibited for accounts registered to minors under the age of 18.
